hobby farm update:
- the chickens have frostbite - the rooster anyway. I now call him 'frostbite' when I am in the coop with him, not turning my back on him too long while I am doing chicken chores - I have learned not to trust a rooster.
- the bees died - they did not make it through our recent stretches of freezing cold weather - I will be trying again this year - hoping to learn from my many mistakes from my first season with bees.
- we have a very brody hen, who, with our new wave of daylight has spring fever, we have to fight for eggs - I arm myself with work gloves to sneak eggs from her nest each day
looking forward to another season - we're figuring out what our next backyard adventures will entail, making plans for the garden, new bees, chickens, and whatever else we might be inspired to try.
right now things are quiet and manageable - and we're enjoying the yields of our efforts with meat in the freezer, canned summer goods, and the opportunity to experience just a little bit of this hobby farm life each day.
